Even on A320, the seat block is hit and miss. Sure, they announce middle seat to be "reserved for your comfort" but they have no issues seating someone in it.
A short haul J ticket is more expensive than longhaul Y. With that price, one would expect the A320 cabin to be 2+2 with recliner seats. It isn't and it is just laughable.
One can only assume that they keep the prices up (and the service down) to prove that "no one is buying our shorthaul J tickets anymore" in a move to convert everything to one-class.
BTW, I don't find the E90 terrible. It is a very smooth and agile plane and if loadfactor is low, I think it offers better comfort than A320. (in row 1)
