However, attempting to replicate this fare on Matrix gives me a price that's $500 more:
Code:
Fare 1: Carrier UA YAZ14UPN EWR to SFO (rules)
Passenger type ADT, one-way fare, booking code Z
Covers EWR-SFO (Business)
US$1,514.37
what gives?? thanks for the help…
The codes that yield company discounts are given to the travel agent/booking channel that employees are required to use..and as far as I know can't be replicated anywhere else. I've worked for 2 big companies in my life..both have had UA and other airline discounts.. and each time only the appointed travel agency had access to the discounts.
I just did a test booking in my company site and got the pricing for that same booking code YAZ14UPN for EWR-SFO.. booking into Z.. it was $1,284 for the one way... better than the full $1,514 normal published fare.. looks like you've got a bigger discount on that particular route/fare at your company. And the only way you'll get it is if you book through your assigned channel..unfortunately. The rule I've always heard..both here and at my former company...is that booking personal travel is prohibited even if paying with a personal card. I know it would be nice to be able to bypass the official channels for a number of self centered reasons (let's admit it)..but they do it so they can track their company spend which gives negotiating power when it comes time to talk about discounts the next year.
