I'm travelling LHR-HKG-PER in J. Bought a fancy vented storm proof umbrella here in the UK - it is about 1m long. Can I bring in past security etc at LHR/HKG as hand luggage or should I check it in? If the latter OK to check in as is or better to bubble wrap and box it up?

Used to be that an umbrella was one of the extra things allowed as hand luggage, along with walking sticks and binoculars etc but now there is no mention of this on the CX website or FAQs.
