I have to say that on recent domestic flights on DL, their streaming video system to my iPad is wonderful. Yes I was up front but regardless, going this way is the way of the future.

First, my iPad screen is way bigger than any seat-back display would ever be and secondly, I can adjust the angle to my taste much easier. True, it is amazing that many people don't know that the option even exists. But from my experience, way to go Delta.

And since most anyone traveling has a phone, pad or computer now, imagine the savings a carrier could experience if they could totally drop IFE systems entirely (not that they will but what if). We would get back that floor space used up by the obtrusive box and the issue of whether the person in front of you is reclining or not won't matter.

But from a mere weight and cost perspective, going wifi IFE would save Delta and all other airlines big $$$ on both cost of equipment and upkeep, let alone weight and fuel. Let's face it, they are hauling mine and everyone else's iPad from point A to B regardless of whether we use it or not.

Not that Delta would, but I have to suspect that they could give away the wifi media content and still make more money if they didn't have to imbed the aircraft seats with 200+ video touch screens and server equipment in fuel alone, let alone the cost and maintenance of the AV system.

IFE? BYO-IFE! Problem solved.
