3 nights in NYC at end of March. A few questions and suggestions

A friend of mine is looking to travel with her parents to New York (from London) for 3 nights at the end of March.

A few questions:
-fly into EWR or JFK?. I've only ever flown into JFK (BA flyer here ) though I believe EWR is much faster for connecting through to Manhattan then JFK

-How to get into town?. There are three adults travelling with 3 nights worth of stuff so that rules out public transport. I've only ever had a limo take me into town so not sure of the cost of a taxi (flat rate $55 from JFK-Manhattan I think ) . I guess Super Shuttle is an option though with three travelling it may be cheaper by cab.

-Hotel and location. I've suggested Midtown, somewhere around Grand Central Station like the IC Barclay or W Hotel for ease of getting about, being close to GCS means the Subway is never far away, but they are looking for a suite with two separate bedrooms.

-Things to do. This is my friends first time in NYC and I am thinking of things other than all the usual obvious tourist sites though my break was 5 full days thanks to early flight arrival. I've come up with a few things to do though I am not sure all these will fit into a 3night itinerary:

- Empire State Building
- Liberty Island-Ellis Island Ferry
- South Street Seaport
- Shopping (I was thinking Century 21 down near the WTC, Bloomingdales, Saks, Neiman Marcus)
- Central Park
- Guggenheim
- Frick Collection

-Helicopter trip round the city. Is this worth it? I didn't bother on any of my trips or layovers and so can't say whether it's great or not, however I saw a holiday show over here and it said the helicopter trip was the biggest waste of $$$$ on a no expense spared trip, my friend is learning to fly and this quite appeals.

Any help other suggestions would be welcome

Thanks
Fraser and Kirsty
