That said, it's easy enough to get the passport verified in advance (kiosk, skyclub, etc) why not just do that? There's usually some spare time before boarding anyway.
When you do this, it's wise to have the agent reprint your boarding pass so that it says DOCS OK. It's a check that they entered the information correctly.
