That's just JFK for you - the agents there are (in a broad generalization) surly and rude, and my experiences have ranged from bad to mediocre at the SkyClub.
At other airports, the club staff have always cheerfully handled documentation verification for me (often prompting me to do so before I even ask).
They (even the manager) seem to have no clue about policy rules. ie SDC/SDS/voluntary luggage separation on domestic flights/etc. I either just call the Medallion line, or go outside and use a kiosk/rebooking center that just outside the club to the left.
