The two cautions I might add are: (1) BOG is subject to really aggravating tarmac delays due to construction and congestion at the gates. So even if you land on time, it could take you a while to get to the gate; (2) BOG has the most annoying international departure procedures of any airport I know. You go through multiple document checks (six at my last count, flying UA) before being allowed to board. I believe it's now slightly easier, as they've removed the requirement you visit the window to get a tax exemption stamp. But still, expect lots of bureaucracy as you work your way back through departures.

In theory, you should be able to skip immigration and just follow the signs for international transit passengers, which will put you in the international departures terminal without officially entering the country. It used to be that you had to collect a form for exemption from the Colombian Resident Exit tax outside security, but that is no longer the case.

That said, since AA does not really have transiting passengers I'm not sure that wouldn't cause a hiccup in their system. I know that when I check in on line for my flights from Colombia, I get a message that says I have to see a ticket agent before going through security even though I have my BP's. I know people have used the int'l transit when on a MR, but sometimes it has caused a hassle; however, that was in the days when you needed to collect the form. It would be cleaner to leave and return, but it will take you about an hour to do
So doable and if one gets delayed then take the chance and skip immigration and head directly to international transit passengers?
