Expressing deep dissatisfaction with the direction of United Airlines, two of the carrier’s shareholders are nominating a slate of six new directors to the board of parent United Continental Holdings, most prominently including former Continental Airlines CEO Gordon Bethune.
In an attempt to head off the shareholders’ action, United Continental on March 7 nominated its own slate of three new board members, including former Air Canada CEO Robert Milton. Altimeter and PAR said in the letter that those appointments were “seemingly desperate” and a “cynical attempt to maintain your official privileges and power, despite your long historical record of deficient oversight on behalf of stockholders.”
