I can also get spouse or fellow business traveller coverage included if I use the group ID from my insurance company, or other group affiliations. But, last time we rented a car, the difference between the group rate and the web rate was $20/day. I took the el cheapo, bare bones price, that didn't cover the spouse, although she didn't have to drive the car either.

I know some states prohibit charging an additional drivers fee for a spouse, but not all do and I only seem to need rental cars in these less enlightend states.

I figured I'd go to the source on this--my policy. But depending on which paragraph I read, I may be covered, and maybe not. I imagine I'll send the company an e-mail to find the operative clause.

In the grand scheme of things, $5 a day isn't a big cost, but it really irks me, especially if there's no downside.
