I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. I know everyone has different standards and expectations, but the clubs, even in their current state, are still a respite from the noise and crowds at most airports.
Just a minor improvement these days. Even clubs at outstations like FLL, which was one of my favorite clubs pre-merger, now look like a crowded gate area. Complete with people sitting on the floor.
Of late, there is a much stronger correlation between a crowded airport and a crowded lounge. And while that may seem intuitive, it was not to the same degree five years ago. It was often a
true respite from the chaos of the terminal. Now, it's an ever-so-slightly more civilized type of chaos.
