To prove the point - I've just done exactly this today on a mixed booking and upgraded JUST the BA sector. It was booked directly with BA and was a 125 ticket.

The agent asked which sector and I joked the only one I could upgrade ... to which he corrected me and pointed out I could potentially do the AA one too (although I'm actually in the top cabin already).

No sign of the new ticket yet ... but the flight isn't until Saturday :-)
