I flew the 777 in HD J config 3 times; 2x in J, 1x in Y. In J if traveling with your spouse, it is fine, If traveling alone and you do not have access to the throne seat OR you are not sitting in the center then yes it would suck to crawl across a stranger. Y blows; not only are you crammed in the smallest seat that you can imagine but some very DUMB person decided to install the AV controls right under your elbows.
And that's the best summary though I only venture into J sometimes. I have flown in all three cabins on this plane. And will again as it looks like AC156 YVR-YYZ redeye is always the 777HD. Add that PE is better than Y obviously however the support struts of the previous row is in the center of the seat so it impedes your expanded leg room
