Javelin, I am now thinking about buying some throwaway bags to reduce the number of boxes.
Another option I was looking into was using the luggage storage at terminal 4 to drop the stuff off a day earlier to avoid some anxiety.
Throwaway bags would work but nothing will be able to optimize those 62 linear inches like a cubic box.
I'm not sure I'd want to deal with the hassle of storage, especially for so many boxes. If you give yourself plenty of time and check the boxes as soon as you offload at the airport, you should be fine. IME, checking stuff, especially at U.S. airports, is quite arduous.
