If you are from the USA, I don't think there is a US carrier that you can compare to...so rollerboad- do you research, this isn't just a simple choice...it can have significant impact on the honeymoon..
JQ are a point to point carrier and OK if you fly a single segment. I often fly JQ CHC-MEL and have done flights with JQ in Australia & New Zealand, without problems (as do thousands of others every week).
But transferring from an incoming international flight to a JQ international flight is another matter. If had 4 hours and aware of the risks JQ is an option. Transfer time of 2:20 where you have to go landside to check in is much more risk. AA QF should interline baggage, so no need to go landside:-just a simple air side transfer.
AA have a published protection from AA to Oneworld airlines if AA are late. This includes QF but not JQ.
