I have stayed at both a few times in the past year.

Location: roughly equal...the W is about 250 yards farther from the beach bars and restaurants. Both are across the street from the beach, so you have to take the overpass.

Pools are about equal...W is unique with a glass staircase inside.

The W rooms are fancier, but smaller. As a Platinum I have gotten really good upgrades at the Westin. The W is also "cooler" if you care about that...I don't like how dark the lobby there is though.

All in all, I would probably go with the Westin unless you are into the cool factor of a W.
