There shouldn't be any arguing in the first place. Staff should have the access rules ready to consult (which they said they didn't have). Absent that, they should simply enter my boarding pass details and swipe my card and let the computer do the thinking.
Letting me wait and argue for 10 minutes and then not even offering an apology for a mistake on their side is just bad.
