It looks like a gap because the left side seats, for example, are numbered A (all windows are A) and C (all aisles are C) with no B.

The seat map is a diagram (cartoon), not a literal representation of the actual distance between the seats. It is not a photograph. You should not use the seat map to determine, for example, how much leg space you will have. That is not its purpose.
