general question regarding hotles and blocking rooms.

I know of a hotel near a concert venue that has every summer weekend blocked out b/c (I assume) they are waiting on concert dates to be published. due to some insider news, I know the date of the nights I need a room at this hotel.

Is there any way to get myself a room, I was told there is no waiting list for the dates and rates would be determined at a later time. Do I call everyday, is there a way that someone at corporate could call the hotel and ask why they have every weekend blocked...just seems a bit shady to me that they can block every summer weekend until they know when they want to shaft people...
