2 years ago I checked into the Ritz Carlton in downtown LA. The rate was $429 a night and I had a 2 night stay. I got up to my room and opened the dresser drawer and the drawer came out of the dresser and landed right on my foot. I was in some pain obviously and frustrated. I called the front desk, told them what happened and they sent up security to take a report, brought up some ice for my foot and were extremely apologetic.

So after leaving that room and limping down to the front desk, they comped 4 nights for me on the spot and upgraded me to a suite on the club floor AND gave me use with a driver of this hotel Cadillac escalade for a few trips 30 minutes away.

They knew I could have sued and they made all attempts to cut that off and go above and beyond. That's what hotels should do if a guest gets injured and it isn't their fault.

20k points, what a joke.
Lucky you. Try a hotel here in Scandinavia.

Well, I don't know if it's because you don't live in Scandinavia. Once in a hotel in Denmark a mounted on wall bedside table dropped on my 7 years old's foot. It hurts and we checked and she was ok. We wrote to the GM along with numerous other things and we got 1 night comp future stay.

Just 10 days ago a guy drop his hand luggage on my head during a flight - it hurts my head and my 9 years old's head too - again should I ask him for a bucket of ice and compensation?

I think it happens because it's in the US - they worry that you end up suing them so it's probably cheaper for them to give you 4 free nights instead. I also think that $429/night does make them more willing to comp you.
