Depends on your schedule. For a late evening departure from YVR, going via SFO on UA is a decent option too. UA usually has two redeyes SFO-EWR with lie-flat seats on the 757. It's a little better than taking a redeye to YYZ or YUL and then having to do customs/immigration and the short hop connection when you're already exhausted (IMO).

Edited to add: unless you're floating in Aeroplan points, I wouldn't bother redeeming them for UA 737 domestic J. Just buy a Y ticket for $250 and be done with it.
