NRT-LAX last Sunday, we landed early, waited on the taxiway for our T5 gate (55, if I remember right) to open up. We finally pulled into the gate, waited some more, and then were told that we would be bussed to TBIT to clear customs. So we took busses across the tarmac even though we were already at the gate at T5. I then had to walk back to T5 for my connection.

Pilot came on the PA and told us that was happening with the introduction, "Well folks, in my 30 years I haven't seen this one."
