Great list. There are lots of books that can be added for New Orleans, including a number of Tennessee Williams works, and, although I'm not a fan, Ann Rice's books.

Also, if you're a food junkie like me, Calvin Trillin's books are great for getting you in the mood for great food in places like Kansas City, New York, New Orleans (and surrounding areas -- his piece on Boudin in Acadiana is wonderful), Barbados, Nova Scotia, and many, many others.
