Okay, I guess the exchange rate explains a lot of the fare difference. Plus there's probably more competition for YVR-Asia (vs SEA-Asia). Didn't know there was a bus from Seattle straight to YVR, but that wouldn't work with our two little kids who travel with us on most of my trips to Asia. I would definitely consider it if I'm flying solo. With Amtrak, a trek into Seattle/Everett to get on the train that first goes to downtown Vancouver, then train/bus back down to YVR, seems like a pain.

That's a huge saving! That'd be a no-brainer. We will probably be returning to S.Africa ourselves in the next couple years. We'll definitely be pricing out fares from YVR, then. In my case, it's a $750 saving... that's still substantial but it's sort of a gray zone as I'm not crazy about driving. Still trying to decide what to do for our HKG trip.
