Ok, lets say you book SFO to JNB, first flight to DXB is in Biz, but only coach to JNB, book it ( your paying for biz all the way) and if a seat (s) open up then you can change the second leg. This is what I do when I can not get the second leg at first. I am generally booking 6 to 9 months out. I generally get the second leg but once I did not. The odds plus hey it's free anyway.
