If I book a paid stay at the deluxe HV level, and then buy ambassador status for $200 would I be upgraded to a suite upon checkin bc of the amb status?

Seems like that would be my best value since hv rooms are going for $360/night at end of march and suites are $575/night.

FYI, I checked IHG AMB terms but I'm a little confused by the wording: "* Upgrade to a superior room will be assigned at check in. Superior room is defined as a room one category higher than purchased."
