Situation with Nagano is 1998 Winter Olympics. Many new facilities, including hotels were build for the Winter Olympics in 1998. However, since then Nagano is experiencing excess supply of hotel/ryokan rooms compare with demand. Due to Shinkansen, more business travelers from Tokyo to Nagano are making day trip rather than staying overnight at Nagano compare with pre-Shinkansen days.
