Bringing a desktop PC on a plane?

I'm flying with United soon, the plan involves three layovers and I was wondering how possible it'd be to bring a desktop PC and any suggestions how to do such.

I was told I could have the cargo boxed and stored in cargo and just strip the components out as a carry on, but the last thing I want is to be tackled because they think my GPU is some form of explosive.

Sorry, to clear the confusion up, I'm traveling internationally. And I can't ship it, seeing as how that would be the same price as about 70% of the price I just paid for the ticket.

I should also mention, this is a TOWER PC

Here is the exact case.

If I have to, I'll downgrade in size. This case was purchased a good while ago.
