Yes I had boarding passes, as well as majority of the people in the queue. Person at the transfer desk took them, typed something in the computer and returned BPs without any modifications. he did the same for about ~10 people waiting in line in front of me. Have no idea why they do that.

Same happened to me transiting AMM in both directions with RJ on LHR-AMM-BKK and back. As others have observed we were directed to queue up at the counter to the right of the transit security check by a uniformed officer who queried where we were transiting to. When at the counter I queried what precisely they were checking for, and I was told it was to verify that I had the relevant immigration status for my onward journey. I countered that surely that had been done by staff at my origin otherwise I would not have been issued with an onward boarding pass for the 2nd sector. The member of staff behind the counter nodded an acknowledgement as if to agree, but said it was "security procedure".

The bonus was that because we were in J and got off the plane quickly there was no queue at the counter when we arrived so it wasn't onerous, but the queue was 20-30 people deep by the time we were going through the security check, the check took at least 30 secs per person, and there was no fast track for J passengers, other than getting off the plane first.

So there you have it.
