Thanks for the suggestions. I have finally bought Tumi non wheeled garment bag (Tri fold carry on - smaller one) for my travel in smaller planes in India. As it does not come with a hard base, it is flexible enough to bend a little to fit in the overhead bin in ATR72. I did take a flight with this bag last week in ATR and it fits in fine without any fold or bend. I was able to tack a small Tumi satchel into the zipper compartment outside and use it as a conference or day bag at the destination.
