I live in SIN and usually fly via HKG/YVR or NRT/YVR on my annual holiday trip home to Canada and while this would be convenient for me, I'm skeptical that AC is putting on this route.

Note that even SQ doesn't fly non-stop to SIN from LAX or SFO, opting for SFO-NRT-SIN, SFO-HKG-SIN and LAX-NRT-SIN direct routings. For passengers heading into other parts of SE Asia (Thailand, Philippines etc), it would remain more convenient to hub through Japan, HKG or Taiwan than in Singapore.

I do see the odd AC jets at Changi, so some sort of maintenance is definitely done here.
