I can only answer #2 which is in fact what I always do.
I even go as far as to book the 2nd room, and then inform the hotel that a different name will be using that room (sometimes not even checking in with me). I do that when I am traveling with work colleagues.

Sometimes I get the points for both rooms too - sometimes I don't.
