Because for NEXUS you have to interview in a Canadian airport or at the border (or at Boeing Field), so it's inconvenient for anyone in the rest of the U.S. outside easy travel distance. Also, the wait time to schedule an interview seems to be longer on average.

The price disparity is one of the Great Mysteries, but since you live around Seattle, by all means go for NEXUS. Worth it the first time you need to drive across the border on a busy summer weekend!
