I'm never able to find cheap award/paid tix to YVR, though. For AS miles, it's 25k/person. The cheapest fare is at least $200, most of the time >$250. For a family of four, that's 100k or >$1000. Would you opt to fly to YVR (ie, add another flight segment) instead of drive for another $1000?
