They often offer to deliver in the evening at your home. You can also call back and ask for another delivery time. I once had it delivered to an office and the receptionist took delivery upon my instructions.

Indeed, it is always inconvenient and the airport/carrier fault. But that is a common occurrence in travel. Apparently the OP did not complain about the first delivery timing and seem to take responsibility for the missed delivery. He only complains about not scheduling a second delivery by the "incompetent" airline, and that seems to me excessive.
