Giving up on airplane food?

I remember the days when I was excited about airplane food in premium cabins. Back when I wrote TRs I would happily report on the food, and my goal with every flight was to sample as much of the menu as I possibly could.

After a number of very average (and some downright horrible) meals in J/F cabins on top airlines (e.g. LH, SQ, CX, EY) in the last year, I've started to turn down entire meal services (something I would have never imagined 2 years ago) and now prefer to eat on the ground before/after the flight. Even the most outstanding dishes I've had on a plane in F, I would consider merely "decent" served at a restaurant on the ground (JAL is the exception here.) That's the reality of reheated food, but I am now baffled at why people seem to place so much emphasis on food when flying premium cabins when "average" is pretty much the best that can be done.

Am I losing my mind and becoming a snob?
