Or perhaps the Manchester area in southwestern Vermont, about an hour to an hour and a half to the northeast of Albany. Wonderful restaurants, charming inns, good antiquing and beautiful sights (no billboards in Vermont!). The place is pretty twelve months out of the year (although it could get crowded at times, which is the only downside).

Another thought: Saratoga when the ponies are running (although I don't know about staying there for a whole week).
