I can understand that -- and frankly it's simply amazing to me that the airline's original position was that they would not issue you a refund. Protecting a single passenger on another carrier will cost the equivalent of many refunds. With people like those you spoke to in charge, it's no wonder they are losing so much money.

But I would expect they are required to make a 'reasonable' offer for a substitution (i.e. accomodation on another carrier.) If you don't like the offer, I [I]think[/B] all you can do is ask for and receive a refund. But I have not read the IATA rules on this matter recently.
