I feel your pain. I have had 4 broken foot stools in the last 12 months. All of them on 747/777 aircraft. 3 sectors I could move seats (window to middle - not ideal), one sector, flight was 100% full and it was LHR-SIN-SYD. was told it would be repaired in SIN, which of course it was not. A folded blanket or extra pillow would solve the issue, but of course BA carry no spares...
