Some good music, some good books, a pen, a notebook, a good paper with a good crossword and some nicotine gum...

An evening flight after a hectic day helps too.

And, most of all, a relaxed mood. Do everything to put yourself in a happy, relaxed mood. The kind of mood where recline, elbows, chatter, snoring and confined spaces do nothing to upset you. Leave loads of time to get yourself to the airport, and go there slowly. Don't rush. See each queue as a reading opportunity.

That's all I need. Obviously, I'd rather be in a comfier seat at the pointy end, but that doesn't always happen. But it's all about mood. If you're uptight and wide awake, everything will annoy you. If you're dozey and relaxed, you will see it as a perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and listen to your favourite music for a few hours.
