It seems to be the taxes that are the problem. You're double taxed by the US and Mexico. So that $228 air fare (which in itself is not bad) ends up with taxes and surcharges amounting to $96.44, making the total $324.44. That's a 42% tax rate!! Pretty crazy, huh?
