It might not be beautiful, but it has many architecturally significant buildings: Media Lab, Baker House, Kresge Hall, Chapel, Simmons Hall, Stata Center, etc.
MIT has always been bold about this kind of thing, much more so than Harvard, whose last two opportunities at architectural greatness (the HBS Spangler Center and the Soldiers Field addition) have been completely wasted (one on an undistinguished and over the top building, the other one on a monstrosity to rival Peabody Terrace for its brutalistic ugliness).
