Sunday travel...are you compensated?

Richard...if this post belongs elsewhere...feel free...I didn't quite know where to post it.

We have a hot issue at my firm concerning :
1) arriving home late at night
2) Sunday travel.
First...let me lay down the scenario for you....I work for a small firm that provides financial services. We have contracts with MANY companies that require us to do "on-site" work. We have enough travel to keep a staff of 20 busy traveling every week....I mean EVERY week.
The problem is....employees are grumbling about Sunday travel....and late home arrivals on Friday nights with little..or no..compensation.
I won't go into detail here.....but Sunday travel...the only thing one get's would be meal per diem. Our per diem is broken into 3 meals.... "x-amount" breakfast...."x-amount" lunch..etc....you get the picture.
Hypothetically...if one leaves the house at 5PM Sunday night..they would only receive the "x-amount" for dinner. It takes a little while to pack...and take care of last-minute errands, bills etc....
Now we'll go to Friday late arrivals......sometimes one has to leave late..connect....flight cancels...etc...and arrives home at 11pm...12 midnight..even 1 am... NO compensation for this !!!

General question for you all.....keep in mind...these people travel EVERY week....this means SUNDAY/MONDAY through Friday EVERY week and have to do laundry...pay bills...run errands all on the weekends.....what type of compensation is typical ???? or is ANY compensation deserved.
I speak to you as the Director of this staff.... and I need to put together some type of proposal to Senior Management on how to solve this problem...and because I'm a "players manager"...I feel that it's deserved.
Please...any thoughts...suggestions.

P.S.- Just so you know.....they are not overpaid and underworked here....it's a small company and there's a budget that we need to meet.
Thanks for the input.
