I have two options:
1. Fly 6am (meaning a ~3am wakeup) NAP-CDG Sunday then pray for no delays or else the rest of the trip is hosed.

2. Fly direct NAP-CDG Saturday afternoon, have dinner in Paris, then head back to the airport after breakfast Sunday morning.

Don't get me wrong, if we could do this all in one day we would. But, that noon departure from CDG makes that a very risky move. And given that we aren't trying to make Paris anything other than a quick stop for dinner I really don't see what the big deal is.
Option 3 would have been to spend the night at or near CDG and avoid the travel back and forth between CDG and Central Paris. There is CDG itself or there are a few pretty hotels nearby (castle like). Again, it's not a question of big deal, everyone to their own and if that is what works for you then that's great, I just personally find the commuting between CDG and Paris city centre either unpleasant (public transport) or expensive (taxi etc) and always entails a risk time wise, which is why personally, for less than 24 hours I just wouldn't have bothered (unless it is specifically to see family in my case, but that is of course another matter entirely).
