There are a few routes which you can know (for now) what type of IFE you're going to get because only certain aircraft will operate the route. For example, any flight to IAH, LAX, SFO will have 2nd generation ICE digital widescreen until they get delivery of a new A380 with crew rest. Any 2 class A380 will have the third generation of ICE digital widescreen e.g. to CPH. There are some other examples like this.
