This may be true, but the CO HKG-EWR route operates non-stop in both directions year-round - JNB-ATL doesn't. I have flown on the CO flight, and it indeed is a long one. I've been on perhaps two dozen crossings of the Pacific Ocean, which are 10-14 hours depending on direction and city pairs involved. But, the extra couple of hours on the CO flight really made it seem long!
