Hi all, I’ve just returned from a fantastic ‘pilgrimage’ to Longreach where I visited the Qantas Founder Museum and put together a video of the day.
It was incredibly hot (40 degrees) which made things a bit uncomfortable, but the flip-side is that there’s a lot less tourists. On my tour, there were only two passengers and one guide and (as you can see in the footage), there weren’t a lot of people inside the museum either.

I did the $160 Platinum Tour, which is on the pricey side of things, but not bad given what you get.
It starts at 0800, which is perfect in this weather, and includes a guided tour of the 747-200, 707 and the DC-3. You also get to do a wing walk on both 742 and 707, which is a fascinating experience in itself. You then get a $10 meal voucher and access to the museum. The advantage of the platinum tour is that your group will be a max size of 5 people otherwise the jet tours can have up to 35 (IIRC) passengers.
