It is very difficult to find parking in Manhattan for under $28/day. I just spent last Wed-Sun in Manhattan (22nd and 2nd) and brought my car. I managed to find legal street parking for the entire time, but it involved moving the car several times to comply with alternate-side parking rules. Each move took about 45 minutes of driving in circles until I found a new legal spot. In all my perambulations, the very cheapest parking lot I saw was about $23/day plus tax. (And tip!) Although I was forced to drive into the city this time because I had way too much stuff to carry on the train, I don't recommend it at all. In addition to the hassle and cost, you are also putting your car at risk. Last time, I lost a hubcap...this time, I had silver paint sprayed on the car.
