At the risk of complicating matters further or making a totally unworkable suggestion, suppose airlines tried to seat pax in reclining or non-reclining front-to-back columns? If you get an A seat, you agree not to recline but know that the person in front of you won't either. If you get an F seat, you can recline but know that the person in front of you might also. In other words, take your pick! I know, lots of practical problems, and I'm not 100 percent serious, but something along those lines might be worth a try. The vehemence of some posts in this thread, to say nothing of those in the other thread cited above - on both sides of the issue - suggests that something ought to be done before WW 3 breaks out over this.
