Honestly, and I might get flamed for this.
But the YVR lounge during lunch time is actually worse than many china lounges. I dont really care much for the decor.
What I do Care about
1. Warm Food(Which at lunch time, as I am sure you know... is pretty bad in YVR DOM MLL)
There was nachos, bread to go with soup, some salad or fruit(forgot which) and that was it, at 11:00 pm its understandable but at 11:30 am, come on! Not even sandwiches was there last friday. So I just had one of the soup, forgot what it was called and.... it was beyond horrible,But I was so hungry I chug it down my throat anyways. I really think AC needs to add some hot dish like they do at breakfast, the pasta at YYZ DOM MLL is atleast better than no hot dishes at all. DOM MLL during breakfast time is quite good, but sucks during lunch time.

Which compare to china lounges, at least there were noodles, even fried rice.(And this is credit card contract lounges in PVG DOM and $20 access ones at Haikou airport compare to Air China Lounges which are significantly better)

2. Drinks(Okay AC is very good on this front, I will give them that)But I rather get a hot meal down my stomach than an open bar.

But that being said, AC's J cabin do serve hot meals so this "wishing for hot dish thing" doesn't really make a difference for J flying customers.
